If I had only one prayer what would it be? I would pray Jesus make us “contagious.” Jesus started His ministry with these words, “Follow Me and I will make you Fishers of Men.” I would have started by saying something like this, “Follow me and I will fix the problems in your life,” or “Follow Me and I will make you fulfilled.” But Jesus launched His public ministry by saying, “My followers will be contagious from the start. Helping others become Christ Followers won’t be a strange thing to them. It will be as natural as breathing.” Unfortunately it has become an unusual thing to many Christians. It is as if we have been inoculated against the message of grace that is for all people. So my prayer would be that we would all become Contagious Christians, Christians intent on spreading the kingdom of God over all the world, Christians who want to see their God honored by people in every tribe, tongue and nation. But why?
According to a 2001 US survey 29.4 Million Americans claim to have no religion. They don’t see any value in the church or in the Christian faith and have no desire to spend their Sundays with those who do. Their only hope of ever having a relationship with Jesus Christ is a relationship with a contagious Christian. So that’s my one prayer.
